Championship Show Sat 13th November 2021 Kinross Polo Club

Judge:   Mrs  Jane Jones (Benvellyn)

Firstly I would like to thank the Committee for inviting me to to be the replacement judge at their 31st Breed Championship Show on 13th November, and for making me feel so welcome; it was an absolute privilege to be invited to judge at such a prestigious Show.

The Committee are to be congratulated on finding a new venue at such short notice following the cancellation of their previous one, and for all their hard work in making their Show, which is always very friendly, such a success. I would also like to thank my two excellent stewards for keeping everything running so smoothly, and to all the exhibitors for their good sportsmanship. It was a lovely big ring which gave dogs the opportunity to really get into their stride, although there were some dogs who didn’t like the soft surface and didn’t give of their best on the move.

I thoroughly enjoyed my day’s judging, and having not judged for a while due to Covid, the majority of dogs were new to me. I found a good depth of quality in the entry overall and I was very pleased with both the dog and bitch line ups. I was very impressed with the general level of fitness, most of the exhibits were very well muscled and in hard condition, although there were a few carrying too much weight. However I do have a few areas of concern; we need to have regard to dentition and tailsets, and short upper arms.

There were some very strong contenders for top honours who just need more maturity and finish, and whose progress I will watch with interest.
